For the first time in many years, the Chicago area will serve as host to coin-op state association execs from around the country, when the 2008 version gets underway February 14-16 in northwest suburban Hoffman Estates...near the AMOA office in South Barrington, IL.
In addition to the informative, interactive idea exchange between participants, a tour of area facilities, and a downtown Chicago reception and dinner are planned.

During the past several years, the Innovator Award has become the most coveted prize for exhibitors at the annual AMOA Expo. The primary focus of this recognition program is on the unique, new, innovative qualities of the entries.
A new exhibitor awards initiative will start at this year's September 24-26, 2009 AMOA Expo in Las Vegas: "The Operator Poll: Best of Show."
Each operator attendee will be given a ballot form to complete and return. It requests the attendee to "nominate the following new product for the Best of Show Award at the
AMOA Expo 2009:"
Product: ______ Company: ______ Booth: _______
While there are general guidelines for the operators to use in making their nominations, the criteria leaves room for interpretation and personal opinion. That's intentional. AMOA is approaching this like the popular People's Choice award, with the "people" being the operator attendees who will be reviewing the items in the booths at the show.
Ballots must be returned by 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, and the "Best of Show" honor will be announced and presented at 1:30 p.m. at the Hesch booth #414 at the main entrance to the exhibit hall.

Paralleling AMOA's membership renewal campaign, but conducted separately and independently, is the 2008 licensing renewal program of the Jukebox License Office (JLO).
Besides the nearly identical timing of the efforts, the two are intertwined in the minds of many operators because of the discount on JLO fees exclusively afforded to AMOA members.
Operators who have first paid their 2008 AMOA dues and have an active AMOA-JLO identification number qualify for a $26 per box discount on license fees for CD and vinyl jukeboxes (on the second and all subsequent boxes).

Did you know that 2009 marks the 120th anniversary of the jukebox? AMOA will be helping celebrate the milestone throughout the year. One of the ways we will call attention to this achievement is during this year's Expo.
At the annual Opening Gala Reception on the Pooldeck of the Las Vegas Hilton on Thursday, September 24, AMOA will sponsor a performance by Sonny Turner, former lead singer of the Platters. Sonny joined the group at age 19 and helped bring the Platters back on the pop charts during the 1960s with such hits as "I Love You 1,000 Times;" "With This Ring;" and "Washed Ashore." As well, he re-recorded the group's classics such as "Only You;" "The Great Pretender;" and "The Magic Touch."
Also taking place at this year's Opening Pool Party is the raffling off of Rowe's FINAL commercial CD Nostalgia Jukebox manufactured at the historic Grand Rapids, MI facility. The drawing is open to all operator attendees and winner MUST be present to win!

In mid-2006, we asked members to take a very brief survey that provided insight into operators' views on the "state of the industry." Not billed as statistically- projectionable research, the survey was designed to yield some interesting tendencies within coin-op companies.
With 2008 upon us, we thought it would be a good time to re-visit...and see if the prevailing sentiments expressed in mid-2006 have shifted much since then.
Besides, there are a whole bunch of survey respondents who have AMOA-branded coffee mugs adorning their desks as a result of their participation. The random drawings of yester-year may, too, be revisited!
To take the survey (a relaxing 3-5 minute escape from Holiday-induced stress), please click here...
