Perhaps with a hearty "thank you" to all attendees and exhibitors who turned out in better-than-expected numbers and participated in better-than-expected coin-op commerce in Las Vegas last week. While some predicted a listless show, most in attendance were buoyed by the positive energy.
Though the announcement of the "new, single show" captured the headlines on the final fall Expo, a recurring comment expressed by those at the September 24-26, 2009 Expo was: "We were glad we came."
That comment validated the efforts of many AMOA volunteers who stepped up and worked tirelessly to deliver a quality event in these challenging times.
One individual who deserves special acknowledgement is AMOA President Russ Mawdsley of Russell-Hall, Inc., Holyoke, MA, whose one- year term ended at the conclusion of the show.
Not only did Russ serve as quarterback for the various programs and activities that defined this year's Expo, he also lead the association's negotiating team that successfully achieved its goal -- shared by AAMA -- of uniting to create a new single show for the industry.
Thanks, Russ. Thanks AMOA volunteers. And again, thanks to all who "made the investment" to participate in our 2009 AMOA Expo.

During the past several years, the Innovator Award has become the most coveted prize for exhibitors at the annual AMOA Expo. The primary focus of this recognition program is on the unique, new, innovative qualities of the entries.
A new exhibitor awards initiative will start at this year's September 24-26, 2009 AMOA Expo in Las Vegas: "The Operator Poll: Best of Show."
Each operator attendee will be given a ballot form to complete and return. It requests the attendee to "nominate the following new product for the Best of Show Award at the
AMOA Expo 2009:"
Product: ______ Company: ______ Booth: _______
While there are general guidelines for the operators to use in making their nominations, the criteria leaves room for interpretation and personal opinion. That's intentional. AMOA is approaching this like the popular People's Choice award, with the "people" being the operator attendees who will be reviewing the items in the booths at the show.
Ballots must be returned by 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, and the "Best of Show" honor will be announced and presented at 1:30 p.m. at the Hesch booth #414 at the main entrance to the exhibit hall.

Did you know that 2009 marks the 120th anniversary of the jukebox? AMOA will be helping celebrate the milestone throughout the year. One of the ways we will call attention to this achievement is during this year's Expo.
At the annual Opening Gala Reception on the Pooldeck of the Las Vegas Hilton on Thursday, September 24, AMOA will sponsor a performance by Sonny Turner, former lead singer of the Platters. Sonny joined the group at age 19 and helped bring the Platters back on the pop charts during the 1960s with such hits as "I Love You 1,000 Times;" "With This Ring;" and "Washed Ashore." As well, he re-recorded the group's classics such as "Only You;" "The Great Pretender;" and "The Magic Touch."
Also taking place at this year's Opening Pool Party is the raffling off of Rowe's FINAL commercial CD Nostalgia Jukebox manufactured at the historic Grand Rapids, MI facility. The drawing is open to all operator attendees and winner MUST be present to win!

According to a release issued today by the International Association for the Leisure & Entertainment Industry (IALEI), its membership has voted to approve the merger of the organization with the International Association of Amusement Parks & Attractions (IAAPA).
On Wednesday of this week, IALEI board members met in Louisiana for a special membership meeting to tally all of the ballots cast. More than 83 percent of the votes gathered were in favor of the merger, which exceeded the 2/3 vote mandate that was required to confirm the Board's decision.
Quoting from the prepared written release: "While final preparations are being discussed for the dissolution of IALEI, the members have spoken and later this fall, all IALEI members in good standing will become IAAPA members upon conclusion this fall."
