Tee it Up at Paiute
golf_paiute.jpgIn a short 10 weeks, the annual AMOA International Expo will kick off in sunny Las Vegas. But on September 23, early arrivals will have the opportunity to tee it up for a great cause!

The 7th Annual AMOA Coin-Op Cares Golf Classic will take place on the Snow Mountain Course at the presitigious Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort. For $165 you get greens fees, cart with GPS system, practice balls, lunch, beverages on course, prizes and giveaways, AND roundtrip transportation between the Las Vegas Hilton and the course. Golf rental clubs were negotiated down to $30, compared to $45 last year.

All proceeds from the event go to the AMOA Coin-Op Cares Charitable and Education Foundation, which supports a range of education, disaster relief and charitable enterprises.

Making A Difference
Sometimes, one person can and does make a difference. Veteran op Doug Minter of Tip Top Amusements, Carson City, NV, discovered a potentially devastating measure that was proceeding through the state's legislature while reading the local newspaper recently.

It was the second part of the proposed measure that got Doug worked up. The first part was the doubling of the $100 fee that operators like Doug pay to the state for an annual business license. But it also called for the fee to be applied to each location where an operator conducted business.

"That would have added thousands of dollars to operators' cost of doing business," Doug related.

While the Amusement & Vending Operators of Nevada is mostly inactive these days, according to Doug, he still serves as the contact for the association and placed an urgent call into the organization's lobbyist, who was effective in communicating the industry's views on the harmful effects the bill (AB 146) would have imposed on operators' businesses.

The bill was amended so as to eliminate the "per location" application of the $200 business license. A good ending, thanks to Doug's advocacy.

It's the same old story, though. Those who saved $10,000 (50 locations x $200) or more as a result of the actions taken are the same individuals who balk at paying their annual membership dues to the state association or refuse to show up to a meeting. Next time, maybe?

Calling All Innovators

innovator_logo.jpgFor the ninth year running, the AMOA Innovator Awards is not only recognized but coveted by exhibitors at the Annual AMOA International Expo. Since its inception in 2001, the purpose of the program has been to recognize the efforts of manufacturers and suppliers in bringing exciting, new products to market for the coin-op industry.

The criteria is simple:

  • Entries must be introduced to the trade after last year's Expo
  • Entries must be in production and available for sale/shipment at the time of Expo 2009
  • Entries must be working equipment; no prototypes or "mockups"

No props or product enhancements may accompany the entry submissions, unless sold that way.
There is NO cost to enter. Exhibitors can submit up to two entries. The deadline is July 24, 2009. The winner or winners will be announced during the AMOA Annual Membership Breakfast and Membership Meeting on Friday, September 25.

Receiving this award represents a prestigious achievement for exhibitors. Click here to download a copy of the entry form today. For more information, contact Lori Schneider at (800) 937-2662.

Show Specials Sign-Up is Open

expo_blurb.jpgWe're always looking for ways to drive traffic to exhibitors' booths and to offer buyers a great deal on products to be displayed at Expo. The Show Specials Program does exactly that. The completely FREE program was designed to provide Exhibitors with an effective way to enhance awareness about your products to existing customers as well as potential customers walking the aisles of Expo. Show-goers can shop the specials prior to their arrival in Vegas plus they also get a list in their show directory on-site.

Show Specials doesn't cost anything - it's only when a sale is made and the customer redeems the discount - a true "win-win" proposition! The deadline to register show specials is August 14, 2009. To download an entry form, click here. Any questions about the program, contact AMOA (800) 937-2662.

New Jersey Celebrates 50th Anniversary
nj_assn_logo.jpg

Earlier last month, the New Jersey Amusement Association (NJAA)celebrated its 50th Anniversary during their Annual Dinner Dance at Eagle Oaks in Farmingdale, NJ.

In 1959, local amusement businesses organized in the face of daunting financial pressure to help pass a referendum which led to the legalization of boardwalk and amusement park games. The statewide referendum was carried by one of the largest majorities in New Jersey history, supported in counties in which these types of business did not even exist. Fifty years later the association is doing much the same: monitoring legislation, promoting the industry and taking a pro-active stance on behalf of all the members it represents.

We congratulate the NJAA on fifty successful years as an organization. For more information on the association, please visit www.njamusements.com or call (866) 240-0000.
